Start from the student's own work
Every session uses something real: the essay due next week, the novel on the go in class, a marked test. Skills stick when they're used on work that counts.
About me
I'm certified with the Ontario College of Teachers, with undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Toronto. I spent 34 years in the classroom, the last 27 with the TDSB, mostly teaching English.
That many years with that many students gave me a wide range of tools for meeting a student where they are. Today I work with students one-on-one, on their own assignments and deadlines, and I help Grade 12 students put together university applications that sound like them.

My background
I've spent many hours working individually with students: preparing for exams, refining projects, reviewing key concepts, honing reading and writing skills, and shaping their academic and professional futures. At my schools I also advised many extra-curricular clubs.
I'm retired from the classroom, and I'm looking forward to helping students become stronger writers and learn more about stories and themselves.

How I teach
01
Every session uses something real: the essay due next week, the novel on the go in class, a marked test. Skills stick when they're used on work that counts.
02
Fixing one essay helps once. Learning why the thesis was weak helps on every essay after it.
03
A written plan after the first session and a short note after each one, so you always know what's being worked on.
04
I ask questions, give feedback and model the thinking. I never write a student's essays or applications.
Ask me anything about your teen's course, the OSSLT or the application year.
